Tender Mercies
I have been thinking the past few days about the Tender mercies of the Lord. I feel like not only was I able to receive a tender mercie, but it benefited so many other people. While working in the ER this past week, I was able to take care of one of my (favorite) sweet cancer patients, that I have gotten to know very well. As I heard Phil's wife Fran yell my name as the ambulance came in, and I listened to her tearfully tell me what was going on, he just happened to be my patient anyways. I was so grateful I was able to jump in and know exactly what to do and what needed to be done. As we did several procedures on him, and then took him up to the ICU, I know it was helpful to both he and Fran that I was their nurse. Fran later told me how grateful Phil had been that I was his nurse. I was able to talk to their daughter (who I know well) and explain to her everything that was going on and what we were doing for her dad. After I took him up to ICU, and explained to Fran what was going on, and huggged her goodbye, I went home. I called on monday to check up on him, only to find out that he had passed away the day before. I was crushed, but not completely surprised. I was grateful to know that everything medically that could have been done, had been done; it was just his time to go. It was helpful to be able to tell everyone at the clinic, the nurses, doctors, MA's, and other close friends and patients what had happened.
After talking with Fran later, I know she was so grateful for all that I had done and how grateful they were to have someone familiar care for him. I know this is one of the Lord's tender mercies, not only to me but also to this sweet family.
